Teacher’s Day is a tribute to the contribution made by teachers to our society. 5th September is celebrated as Teachers’ day in India. It is also known as “Teacher Appreciation Day” and marks the anniversary of the birth of Sree Narayana Guru, who was one of the greatest saints that ever lived on this planet Earth.
The day was established by Government Order issued in 1962 which reads: “A national holiday shall be observed throughout India from Thursday, 5th October 1952 to Friday, 6th October 1952 with effect from Monday next succeeding“.
Every year, Teacher’s Day is celebrated on the 5th of September in India as it was on this day that Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, an iconic teacher of modern India was born who also served as the first Vice President and second President of independent India from 1962 to 1967.
He was born on 5th September 1888 in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu state, Kerela state, and died at 7:30 AM (IST) on 12th June 1975 at his home in Thiruvananthapuram following a prolonged illness.
